- How to put together the two villages in Spite of the distance between them?
I think that for this project it’s impossible to give a good solution without taking into account the economical and cultural relationships the two villages have.
Therefore the proposed plan allows a durable development for Ein Hud with regards to its demographical necessities but offers also improvements for Ein Hod in terms of economical and cultural development.
So, the conception issue is the following : how to connect the two villages in spite of the distance between them ?
If the inhabitants of Ein Hud cannot go back to their village of origin, then we shall make all our efforts so that this village comes to them.
II – PRESENTATION OF THE URBAN OPTION:
One of the main elements which generated the master plan is to keep all the existing houses together with the one which are being built now.
The first step is to create a division plan which allows keeping all the houses.
The areas dedicated to the commercial development are inserted between the divisions so they guarantee a fair geographical repartition of the economical activity. No residence is too far from the stores.
The areas dedicated to the agricultural development are located on the periphery of the new urban layout, so that it guarantees enough space for such activity.
Once the division plan is defined, it’s necessary to organise the roads, keeping in mind the preservation of all the houses.
The roads layout is broken into three parts:
The first one is the main street of the village which goes from East to West. This street joins directly the national road which goes to Haïfa, through Ein Hod village. On this major road we will find a series of places and gardens. These areas are aimed at promote the social exchanges and improve the environment. They are located between the existing buildings.
The second part of the roads is made up of all the perpendicular streets. The allow to go to the periphery and deserve all the dwellings.
The last part is the road which surrounds the village. It allows to by-pass Ein Hud and to join the agricultural areas. The North part of this road goes also to Ein Hod.
Once the division plan and the roads are specified, it’s necessary to precise the public areas.
The open spaces and gardens come into the unbuilt areas. For the main part of them they will be “small fleeting public gardens”. Therefore, any person wishing to settle up in the village will be able to do so, buying a part of the garden to the municipality, in order to build his house. This strategy of densification will not be possible for more than 50% of the space of each garden in order to keep a pleasant setting.
A first square will be created around the mosque. This mosque, real belvedere, will offer a view onto the village. Going from North to South, and lined with shops from East to West, it will give porosity to the block.
Then, the second square of the village will be created by the implantation of a multi-functions building, meeting point between the two parts of the village but also between the two villages.
III – PRESENTATION OF THE MULTI FUNCTIONS BUILDING:
This building, aimed at bringing together the two villages, is logically located at the entrance of Ein Hud, as close as possible of Ein Hod.
The size of the building is related to the strategic size of its vocation. Actually, it must encourage the cultural and commercial exchanges between the villages in order to allow them living like two parts of same city.
In this view, the building is made, in its first part, of inclined planes allowing going from one level to another through an art gallery. This buried gallery, received light from three patios giving a homogeneous lighting favourable for exhibitions.
One of the inclined planes goes out from the building to the outside and creates the second square of the village.
The second part of the building offers a cafeteria which leads into the street and the art gallery. It is lightened by windows protected by brise-soleil, and by the big patio. It’s a place for conviviality and exchanges for the villagers of the two villages.
The third part of the building is made of a village hall and of accommodations. It is located at the high level and isolated from the rest of the building. The accommodations have their own entry hall and are served by a central corridor lightened by two patios. They are one way oriented and have a zenith lightening. The fact that the high part of the building overhangs the street gives the advantage of the view and no opposite. One can see without be seen.
The last part is the parking. It’s located under the accommodations and serves all the parts of the building with inclined planes. It also allows accessing to a general store.
This, building, by its size, its cultural, social and economical vocation, is the real centre of tourist development for both villages.
Moreover, its really with the cultural exchanges that it will take all its sense, as shown by the exhibition of the artists of Ein Hod.
