The Palestinian village of Ein Hud lies south of the city of Haifa. At the moment, it consists only at living space and partly of agriculturally used space, otherwise there are not other economically used village zones.
Our project consists of two parts, on the one hand of infrastructures for a course center, „Academia”, and on the other hand of a multi-functional building. We aim to give the village economical support, without affecting the identity of the village.
The potential of the village is its location, it is situated in a wonderful mediterranean landscape. In this inspiring environment we found the ideal position for a course center. This course center offers jobs for the local population and guarantees international attention through foreign „Academia”- participants. Our project consists of three focal points:
The focal point to the mosqe refers to the part of the village which should be accessibile almost exclusively to the inhabitants. They are not supposed to be disturbed in their religion and customs by tourism. The second focal point runs along a newly planned traffic-free pedestrian zone. There, link the trading center should grow and expand. At the same time, this zone is the direct link from the course center to the multi-functional building. Here, a productive exchange is supposed to happen between the local population and the visitors.
The third and last focal point comlpys with the main road of the village, that leads to the exit of the village. There a planned building project for living space is taking shape. We found out, that next to this zone, that we determined to contain one-family and multi- family houses, there is already a village development on the opposite side. Over the years a new village center is supposed to evolve there, combining this new living spaces and the course center around the multi-functional building.
In the master plan, a main road is planned, that circumscribes the village. Through that you avoid that the passing traffic hits the village. The planned course center is separated by this main road. A main road within the village is derived directly from this street to the multifunctional building.
As already mentioned, there will be two different living spaces. On the one hand, the selfdeveloping zone, the tendency of which is already visible coming from the villagers themselves. We would not like to intervene in this evolution in terms of planning. We structured the living zones, planned by us according to a cell system, which was developed from a picture of a natural, organic cell. So, sized plots are created that do not correspond to any linear pattern. The houses, according to the size of the plot either one- or multi- family houses, can be positioned arbitrarily within the plot’s boundaries.
The multi-functional building is subdivided into three areas similar to the village. The first area contains premises for the local administration and a medical practice, Infrastructures that especially the villagers need. A school and a kindergarden are situated next to that. Education should be future-oriented and secular it should also convey certain valves. The third and last area contains a cafe and a minimarket. In front of this part of the building is situated an open exhibition area with seats. This place is used by camp-participants, for
