The form of master plan design has drawn inspiration from a variety of sources related to the site settings, Ein Hod=Hud aspire as a future cultural and educational hub with traditional Israeli and Palestine values. In contrast to most recent developments the masterplan for Ein Hod=Hud is opened to understand forms to define its outline and internal spatial arrangement and the general idea. The form is inspired by and responds to the following: - The site setting. - The vitality of cultural activities. - The image of natural landscape forms providing a sense of contemplative relaxation. - Geometric and organic forms. - Traditional Jewish and Muslim art forms and calligraphy. The master plan draws together all the activities under one dramatic form a vertically perforated volume which shelters the entire development and which is changing in response to the different activities found inside and beneath it. The master plan provides the site with a shelter to protect it from extremes of climate whilst maintaining an outdoor experience. The spaces between the building forms will allow air currents to be channeled in a controlled way into the interior to provide natural cooling breezes. The new design will offer a large scale micro-climatically adjusted environment. Masterplan Concept Inspirations The Ein Hod=Hud development represents a rare opportunity for Israel to turn its village into a celebrated example where Israeli along with Palestine people will create a new world class cultural and educational center. The success of such developments depends on achieving the right scale and density of activity to draw people in the position they want to stay. Successful cultural, educational and recreational quarters will reinforce a place's positive image both for citizen and visitors. The following ingredients are the key to achieving success: Mix of Use - The greater variety of activities/uses the better. - Different uses will be mutually beneficial in reinforcing the quarter. - Provide attractions suited to both local population and visitors. Urban Design - Permeable urban form with liked open spaces. - Clearly identifiable primary routes between different activity hubs. - Diversity of urban spaces and distinctive building forms. - Well defined links to adjacent neighborhoods. - Easy access public transport connections to the rest of city. Architecture, City Landmarks The new building would immediately enhance Ein Hod=Hud status and be a magnet for visitors from around the world. It will be the pride of local citizens and the natural focus for activities in the site. The building would be seen as a gateway building to new future. Well designed landmark developments bring lasting value to cities. They act as permanent advertisement for the place attracting media attention, cultural activities, tourists and business alike. All this will bring further economic benefit to Ein Hod=Hud and its people.Global Precedents, City Landmarks
A review of successful cultural-educational quarter's world wide reveals a number of important principles which are reflected in the balance and distribution of uses: - Success relies on critical mass being established. - The greater variety of uses within the quarter, the better: different uses complement each other and help to allow activity to be arranged optimally during the whole day. - Clear and legible connections between major uses are required with low intensity uses placed further from the main access routes. Culture, Education The development mix and educational, cultural provision is a response to specific needs of the site and for Israel and Palestine as a whole. Detailed investigation into the Israeli, Palestine existing educational, cultural infrastructure has identified the specific needs in terms type and capacity of performance venues. The final mix includes the highest standard performance facilities which will elevate Ein Hod=Hud to the premier cultural, educational focus on Israel. The Uses The concentration of educational, cultural and entertainment uses at the site will create a critical mass and distinct cultural quarter. All of the development will be predominantly open public access in order to reinforce its status as Ein Hod=Hud public heart. Synergies The disposition of uses across the site is based on synergy of mutually supportive uses. The retail spine includes many entertainment activities and leads towards the foyer area of cultural and educational zone.Developing the Brief Building Accommodation Mix Site Plan Occupancy by Open Space Residential 29 % Open Space 70 % Non-Open Space 30 % Hotel 8 % Education Centre 16 % Cultural Centre 18 % CIty institutes 10 % Retail, Restaurants 7 % Commercial 13 % The Ein Hod=Hud site is constrained by a range of physical features which are in the main nature-made. These include; - Various Topography - Natural Landscape - Adjacent National Park - Adjacent road system - Adjacent urban developments The master plan for the site development must positively respond to these features. The master plan should avoid mistakes which have been characterized in some other recent urban developments: - Uncoordinated without vision within wider city context. - Dominance of road infrastructure over pedestrian environments. - Introspective design without properly considered interfaces with surrounding context. The master plan should fully acknowledge the site and its surrounding context. An analysis of the site shows that there are a range of positive features to be exploited whilst there are some negative features which need to be overcome Positive characteristics to be exploited - Platform for "the approximation". - Connecting of both parts. - Creating a communal center (significant also to the wider context). - New opportunities for culture, entertainment and living. Negative characteristics to be overcome - Enhancement and atractivation of the ambient. - Creating a communication system. - Introspective design of adjacent developments.
