- Over the Gap

Project Y

Now, there is a oposition between Palestinians & Jews. Because of their history, most of them have mutual distrust. And it brings estrangements by arms, bombs, walls, & etc.. These estrangements can be called the "Gap"between Palestinians & Jews. So, it is difficult to make a better relationship. And there is an another gap between Ein Hod & Ein Hud. It is a topographical "Gap". The expansion of Ein Hod is limited by it Another probrem of this area is environmental. People in this area has very limited land and resources, specially water. A developing plan must be not only economical but also ecological. The primary object of this proposal is conquest these gaps and create a sustainable community in this area for the future.

1st. Face each other 2nd. Do something together Direct conection by the bridge Creation of the recreation area Conctruction of the community center Physial conection between Palestinian & Jews Mental conection between Palestinian & Jews They will built a confidential relationship mutually by facing & doing something each other. And...if this plan goes well, this main processes will be able to apply to cases of other unrecognized villages, of the Israel & Palestina problems and of the relations between Israel & Arabian countries.

■ To Over the Gap
Now, in 2004 masterplan, Ein Hod and Ein Hud is cutted by national park. And Ein Hud's expansibility is highly limited. This situation should be change for Ein Hud. If the problrm area can use for the people and nature.... It has a great possibility for inhabitants and visiters of Ein Hod/Ein Hud. If a bridge is costructed, required time Ein Hud-Ein Hod will be very short and people wii be able to go and come easily. Because of it's surrounding area of National Park Carmel, the problrm area must be green. And land use for there should be environmental frendly and make good use of the situation. Then, look at the area for tourism in Ein Hod. And if same area including multi-functional community center in Ein Hud is constructed by the bridge, this area is open to evry one: inhabitants in Ein Hod and Ein Hud, visitors at both villages and tourist for National Park Carmel.Ein Hod/Ein Hud Other area Agricultural area Problem area area for tourism

■ Land use
Municipal area by proposal plan with 200 dunams The access with 200m bridge Housing area with expansility Green road & agricultural area The Ein Hud village Public area facing Ein Hod The municipal area of Ein Hud is expanded to 200 dunams to keep the area for futre grouth of the village. The access road is connected directly to Ein Hod. There is a green road along the mainstreet of the village. The center of extension is the Mosque to keep existing community. By the main street construction, some housing is removed, but new housing area is prepared enough. Low-rize apartment type housing will be constructed to minimize land use area, but the housing unit has many commonspace. Area for commerce and public area is located near by to make up the function. The village fases to Ein Hod by this plan.Municipal area in '90s Extension of municipal area

■ Recreation area
Both Palestinian and Jews love nature specially spring season. Many planted flowers, for example oriented poppy, almondtree..., induce people here. Some arranged functions support people's activities. The activities in this area are opportunities of interchange between Palestinian and Jews. Ofcaurse insects and animals. Here will be arranged and adjusted to keep a continuity with national park and for people's recreation. The bride never cut territories of animals by cartraffic on the ground level. And tt brings a diversity of ecosystem

■ Multifunctional community/art/education/hospitality center
Ein Hod scopeEin Hud scope Two multifunctional community centers are built in a opposit site of the valley (so to speak Gap). The function of this building is very simple. It has one big space which can separate into one hall and one small theater, one conference room, kitche and lounge for community/ art/ education/ hospitality. But two village's inhabitants can act and working together using these and the bridge. Through the big window of the main hall, man can look at another side village. Their long and simple shape emphasizes facing two buildings, villages and races. To face with, to be conscious, to talk with to work with ... it is a way to make a better relationship.

■ Ecological Systems
Effective use of natural resources and energy is necessary to live sustainably. As a result of it, People in this areacan live together and peacefully. There are two circlating systems and some systems using natural resources/energy to create a sustainable community.
Water circulation Israel has only a few rain. Water problem is one of the most important matters in Israel. To use water resource effectively is indispensable to create a sustainable community. Carbonized materials Charcoal has a lot of environmental friendry characteristics. Deteriorated carbonized materials serves as soil improvement material by mixing soil, and returns to the ground. The devices using carbonized materials are: Charcoal seedbed/plant pot Carbonized straw in porous wallSolar system The solar system can be carried on a rooftop. The 40,000kW power generation system (about 30sqm) is used to cover the average power consumption per household of Japan (very high quality life. of couse less system can be took. ). If it is necessary, a hotwater supply system can be carried. The warm water is used for a bathroom or a floor heater. These systems put on private garden or roof top. And the ecological systems will operate on solar energy. But these systems are little expensive to take in every housing. So, it is a option.

■ Multifunctional community/art/education/hospitality center
These proposaled ecological systems in A0 paper are designed for the contribution to global environment and local community. They use natural energy; passive ventilation, water circulation system and solar thermal power generation. Ecological systems using charcoal can be linked to the agriculture in this area. So, the village can live without relying on a great deal of fossil fuels. Sustainable community and environment are created by them. And this becomes strong by connecteing land use planning whith these ecological systems. The recreation area between Ein Hod and Ein Hud is very important position. The activities in this area are opportunities of interchange between Palestinian and Jews. These systems and land use plan help to create good condition in this area. We cannot live without using resources, but can cut a waste of it by these systems. "Manners and money make a gentlman". If the lack of resources is gone, probably, people can live more peacefully.
